Meet Andrew Leigh
Andrew Leigh, President of Jerry Leigh of California, has been interested in architecture since he can remember, and this interest and passion have only grown throughout his life and complemented his professional and personal interests.
Andrew sees architecture as a form of storytelling, a way to take a space and turn it into something better and more pleasing to the eye. His own home has a story like this: the home where Andrew Leigh currently resides would have been torn down, but he ultimately saved it, restored it, remodeled it, and now calls the building ‘“home.” He’s even had the chance to flex his creative architecture muscles with Jerry Leigh, providing input and direction on the creation and renovation of the Jerry Leigh offices.
Looking back, Andrew remembers a childhood full of Lego blocks and Erector sets, always building and constructing. He even remembers an instance where, during his formative years, he remodeled an apartment that he didn’t even own.
“My first toy came in a box, and I was more interested in the box and its construction than the toy.”
For Andrew Leigh, one of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of architecture is the evolution of the projects, the journey that it takes to get from the original building to the final product. He enjoys the process of discovering issues and then problem-solving to take a location and turn it into something desirable. However, he is also passionate about respecting the architectural beauty of a place and respecting the environment where it’s located. All too often Andrew sees architecture projects that haven’t taken the whole picture into account, who haven’t considered the theme or time period or environment of the place, and as a result, provide inconsistency with the feel of it. Andrew hopes to see better consistency in the future with thought and careful consideration placed on how we can preserve old building at the same time.
Professionally, Andrew Leigh is the President of prominent apparel company Jerry Leigh where he’s been with the company his father founded in some capacity for more than 35 years. His attention to detail and natural curiosity have made him extremely knowledgeable about the garment industry as a whole, and he enjoys coming to work each and every day. Currently, with the business, Andrew is looking to continue its growth into the cosplay, role-play, and costuming arm of the business, which has begun to boom in recent years.
